Except for the tropical south (Xishuangbanna) and extreme north of the province, Yunnan enjoys a moderate climate all the year round without extreme temperatures.

Some remarks however:

- In summer (from June to September), although monsoon is very attenuated, rainfall is more frequent. In the southernmost part, the phenomenon is more marked and there’s almost daily thundery showers.

- In north Yunnan (Lijiang, Zhongdian, Deqin), the summer is of short duration and the differences in temperatures between the day and the night are important. In winter, the temperature can drop below 0°C in the areas over 3000m high.
